FINGER PRINT DESIGNS

Finger prints are unique patterns made by friction ridges (raisea) and furrows (recessed) which appears on the pod of the fingers and the thumbs.

Prints from palms, toes and feet are also unique, however, these are used less often for identification, so this guide focuses on prints from the fingers and thumbs. The finger print patterns such as prints when an inked finger is pressed unto papers is that of the friction ridges on that particular finger.
Friction ridges patterns are grouped into three distinct types _loop, whorls and arches, each with unique variation, depending on the shape and relationship of the ridges.
Loops: prints that recurve back on themselves to form a loop shape.
Whorls: from circular or spiral patterns, like tiny whirlpools
Arches : create a wave like pattern and include plain arches.
The two underlying premises of fingerprints identification are uniqueness and persistence.
