‪#‎ROLE_OF_SEXUAL_VIOLENCE_IN_THE_SPREAD_OF_HIV‬
Date rape, sexual
assault, rape and forced
sex in childhood or
teenhood increase your
risk of contracting HIV
as it is linked to having
consensual sex at a
young age, having
unprotected sex, having
multiple partners,
paying for/being paid
for sex.

People who experience
forced sex in intimate
relationships often find
it very difficult to
negotiate condom use
as it may result in
violence. This fear of
violence and rape stop
women from reaching
out, meaning that they
often do not and can
not access HIV&AIDS
information, get tested
for HIV, get treatment
or get counselling.
