‪#‎INDIRECT_RISK‬
Physically abusive men
are more likely to have
HIV and often force
high risk sexual
behaviours on to their
partners.

These men
are likely to have
multiple (even
concurrent) sexual
partners, to pay for sex
(transactional sex), to
practice anal sex and to
frequently experience
STIs.
HIV positive women are
more likely to have been
physically or sexually
abused and therefore
victims of violence are
at a high risk of
contracting HIV.
It is important to
understand that even
men who have been
victims of sexual
violence are at risk of
HIV infection. Being a
victim of sexual violence
makes women, girls,
men and boys more
likely to put themselves
into high risk situations.
