‪#‎HOW_TO_TELL_AN_ABUSIVE_PARTNER_ABOUT_YOUR_STATUS‬
Violence against
women plays a big role
in spreading HIV.
When
it comes to date rape,
sexual assault and rape
there is a high risk of
injury (cuts, tearing)
which allow HIV to
enter the blood stream
easily. Also, people in
abusive relationships
have difficulty
negotiating condom use
and accessing HIV
testing, treatment and
counselling.
1. Before you have any
sexual contact, disclose
your status to them
and explain that you
both need to protect
yourselves by using
condoms correctly each
and every time.
2. Disclose your status
in a public place which
gives you some privacy
(eg. a park, beach,
restaurant). If you need
help, there are always
people around who can
intervene.
3. If your partner reacts
badly, if you feel
threatened or scared –
STOP seeing them.
Abusive relationships do
not get better, they get
worse. If you have to
meet them to talk
about something, make
sure it is in a public
place!
